Leo Borlock follows the unspoken rule at Mica Area High School: don’t stand out–under any circumstances! Then Stargirl arrives at Mica High and everything changes–for Leo and for the entire school. Read my review of Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli.
Book Review: Stargirl
I wasn’t totally sure what to expect with this book. It’s been on my to-read list for probably a year. I think I had some expectations of what I would be like so I kept pushing it down the list.
If that’s you – if you haven’t read this book, read it. This book is fabulous from cover to cover.
I’m really not the kind of person authors like. I decide if I like a book in about the first three sentences. I’ll still finish the book (and the series) but I’m a really harsh judge.
This book had me from the beginning. I loved the characters – Stargirl, especially. I love how she tries so hard and still fails. And she is weird – not the normal title character – and I loved that too.
But I think, the thing I loved the most, is this is a book you don’t see coming. The story went places I didn’t expect and the ending was fabulous and sad all wrapped up together.
This book is the first in a series. Usually, I won’t read two books from a series back to back. I like to give the first book time to breathe so that the second book can stand on its own merits.
But since I procrastinated reading book one for so long, I decided to hop right into book two. I’m excited to see where the next book takes us.
